Children's Health Information
Emergency Contacts
On entry to school we will ask you to provide medical information and details of two emergency contacts. This will enable us to contact you or a nominated contact quickly in the event of your child becoming ill or injured at school. It is your responsibility to ensure that these details are kept up to date. Please ensure any changes are provided to the school office promptly and in writing.
School Health Service
When your child starts full-time education you will be asked to complete a School Health Questionnaire provided by the NHS School Nursing Team. The information provided by parents in the questionnaire is treated in the utmost confidence. Our School Nurse visits on a regular basis to carry out eyesight and hearing tests and also checks for height and weight of reception and year 6 pupils. As part of the school curriculum she will also be invited into school to talk to various groups of children, either on matters arising out of a class topic, specific aspects of health and hygiene and sex education. If you have concerns about your child’s health, the school nurse can be contacted by phoning the Child Health Department at Herts and Essex Community Hospital on (01279) 827909
Prescribed Medication
Any prescribed medicines brought into school must be kept under adult supervision. If you have notified us that your child requires an epi-pen or an inhaler these must be kept in an agreed accessible place at the school. It is your responsibility to ensure that your child's medication is in school when required and kept in date.
If your child needs to take prescribed anti-botics more than three times during the school day, a member of school staff can agree to act for you and administer the medication to your child on your behalf. Correct procedures must be followed. Please bring medicines to the school office where you will be required to complete a form for your child which details how the medication should be correctly administered. Non prescribed medication e.g. Nurofen, Calpol etc must be administered by a parent or carer. Please ask to see: Policy and Procedure for Administration of Medicines and First Aid in School.
Water Bottles
Children are encouraged to bring a filled water bottle with them to school each day, especially in the warm summer months. Water Bottles are available to purchase from the school office.
